2014年9月26日 When you die - Jon Hill

My cousin was found dead recently in the hills and forests outside of his hometown in Hillsboro.

He left on a Saturday for a hunting trip for only the day. He was also diabetic. But he got lost.

The Army National Guard deployed a helicopter. Cousins, friends, and the Search and Rescue teams were on hand looking for him. One of his "friends" allegedly found him near a tree by a creek.

That's when he knew he was dead. It's not clear if it was one of our family members out there with searchers looking for him or if it was truly a friend beyond the limitations of blood.

I thought Jon was a good guy. He was one of 10 cousins, with him being the eldest. He was fair and affable. He loved football, He loved Jim Beam, if I can recall correctly. He also asked me about my dad even though he hasn't seen my dad in probably 20 years. He was a fair man and when he spoke ill of someone he kept the comments mostly confirmed to himself and without vitriol.

At 37 years old with two kids, a wife he'd been married to for 13 years, and cousins who thought of him fondly,

I wonder what we'll do. He'd want us to push on, or so I've heard.

But I still wonder.

I haven't cried yet.
I'm not going to the funeral.
I'm not doing anything.
I'm not can't console anyone.

And contrary to what my aunt suggested, I'm not going to drink to honor the memory of Jon, I haven't had anything for a month. Two months prior I hadn't drank anything for a 110 days.

I just going to sit back and wonder,.. If it's something else?
I think I have an answer, or maybe even the answer.

I miss Jon already.

VERNONIA, OR (KPTV) -

The body of missing hunter Jon Hill of Hillsboro has been found. The Columbia County Sheriffs Office says a family friend assisting in the search made the sad discovery just after 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The body of Hill was found more than a mile from where deputies had previously found his pickup truck on Sunday afternoon.

Search-and-rescue crews from several counties had been searching for more than 50 hours for Hill.

Deputies said Hill went bow-hunting Saturday and never returned home Saturday night, as he had planned.
Hill's family members told deputies they spoke with Hill by phone Saturday night and again Sunday morning. They said he sounded disoriented. Family members also revealed that he had diabetes, but it's unknown if that contributed to his death.
Undersheriff Andy Moyer said in a statement: "Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Mr. Hill. We are glad he was found, although we are saddened by the fact he was not found alive."

Hill was bow-hunting in the area ofNorth Fork Wolf Creek Rd. and Highway 26. He called his family with his cellphone twice Sunday morning, at 7 a.m. and again at 9:30 a.m.
His family said he sounded confused and disoriented during the second call.
His body was found off Highway 26 and Timber Rd., in what deputies described as rugged terrain.

VERNONIA, Ore. -- The third day of searching for a missing bow hunter ended Tuesday afternoon when his body was found by a family friend who was helping to search.
The bow hunter was identified Monday morning as 37-year-old Jon Hill, of Hillsboro, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
His body was located around 5 p.m., more than a mile from where his truck was found Sunday afternoon.
Dozens of people were involved in the search and posted fliers in the area. A National Guard helicopter also joined in the search.
Hill went on a day hunt Saturday and called his family about 7 a.m. Sunday to report that he was lost, the sheriff's office said.
Hill phoned again about 9:30 a.m. Searchers later tried to ping his cell phone but could not get through. His pickup was found during the search Sunday.
Hill's family said he sounded disoriented when he called them. They were worried he may have suffered a medical problem.
Searchers were focused on an area southwest of Vernonia, off of Timber Road. Making the search more difficult was the steep terrain and scrub left from prior logging.
The man also was likely dressed in camouflaged clothing, officials said.
Hill reportedly had some food and water when he set out for his trip, but only enough for one day.

2012年6月20日 Throwing Away + Family

My dad told me Sunday the following:
"I thought I saw you after you were walking by with your diploma. I gestured that we should get the fuck outta here and get some drinks. Then I flipped you off. That's when I realized I wasn't gesturing to you and it was someone else."
My mom had surgery for some kind of pre-cancer surgery today. I don't know the details, and she seems to be on the QT regarding the details, but I'm sticking with, "She has cancer." Until the final verdict is in. It's easier for me to prepare for the worst when it never comes, versus preparing on the fly.

Today I also realized that memories, friendship, and tools are more important than anything else. No tool will make me happy, but the best tool I have is knowledge. It's also depressing, because frankly speaking I don't like knowing things sometimes, but it paints a clearer picture that way. I also know that I'll never be able to take everything with me on my adventures, including some people.

***

In the garage there was a box that said, "FUCK ASS HEAVY."
I wrote that on the box about 6 months ago. Like most of my other things, this box had to go, even though it wasn't mine. The dimensions were 16.5 x 18 x 16 inches. It weighed about 40 lbs or more. When I cut it open I was kind of disappointed since it literally was a "FUCK ASS HEAVY" box. Not only was the box heavy in general, but it also had a lot of "FUCK ASS" porn, probably 50 DVDs, a 100 CDs, and over 50 magazines and books of anal porn and spanking.

"This ALL must be thrown out she said." I wasn't surprised she said that. I was more or less surprised I wasn't given a heads up about it in advance that way I could avoid opening it altogether. I felt bad he lost stuff that I was supposed to be holding onto for him, but I had told him 5 months ago that in March, April, and May, I had to get them OUT immediately. Eventually, I ran out of time, and I couldn't figure out a good time to get them into someone else's hands, nor help them unload the boxes.

The guy who could have picked them up was a frail man who'd be no good lifting even 20lbs, much less lifting 40 lbs of anal porn.

2012年4月27日 "Does that mean you've got to lose?"

I was talking to him over the phone about what happened with my sister, and that's when he started to verbally hunt against my mom.
"You know your sister learns that kind of shit from your mother."
Deer season has officially opened. I thought.
"You know it's funny you say that about her, she's actually changed. I mean, we have strong evidence that for the last 5 years she's been completely sober.
So let me ask you this, what have you done? Have you quit drinking? Have you changed at all? No, no you haven't. But that's the thing, you don't need to change.
You know who you are, don't you?
I paused just briefly enough to switch back on him.
My mom, needed to change, but she had to find that on her own.
Speaking of which, have you ever thought about suicide?"
I said reflecting his own judgement and standards on his own behavior.
Without hesitation in his voice whatsoever I heard an immediate and resounding,
"Yes."
I was caught a little off guard, because the same man who accused my mother's background as the reason for my sister's desire for suicide, also had thought about suicide on his own. Albeit his reasons for such seemed to be more shame based, according to what he said after that. But frankly speaking, anyone who wants to commit suicide, does it because of shame, guilt, fear, etc. Fear being a big one.

No, I suppose I wasn't really caught off guard by that alone. I was primarily caught off guard because of the directness. The full-blown honesty that didn't carry an in-your-face attitude or "none of your business". It made me feel like he's come full circle, or damn it, he's trying and has no choice but to advance. Maybe he learned something, something he didn't say. Something I didn't pick up.

I should probably call him again if I want to know.

2012年4月26日 Suicidin'

Three days ago I saved a quote that I thought I was going to use for a blog post title,
"Everyone loves you, when you're about to die"
I guess I felt "Suicidin'" to be a better title.

Last night I found out my sister was in the ICU of a local hospital, because she tried to commit suicide by OD on medicine. It's kind of annoying and alien. I don't mean annoying because my sister in the hospital. No. It's alien she's in the hospital and I don't really feel anything. It's annoying to me that I don't feel anything. Maybe it's because I'm dealing with my own self-misery and unhappiness? Who knows? At present I'm not trying to figure that out, nor do I need to.

But one thing is for certain and that is I'm not doing well, and I would be lying if I hadn't thought about these issues at least once over the past couple of months jokingly or otherwise.

What's frustrating is that I don't always have the appropriate medium to talk about these issues. I don't have anyone right now to talk about how I feel about my sister trying to kill herself. I don't always, or don't, have access to the friends and people I'd like to talk to when shit like this happens. Shit like this happens, and I'm just dealing with it until the weekend when I can unload it all. If I can. Why should I have to wait until the weekend? Well, I'm single and all of my friends have jobs, families, and/or are in other states.

I actually don't think companionship would really change anything, because I'd probably have some whiny bitch telling me to to stop worrying about it, or to just stop talking about it. Neither of which is realistically going to happen when I'm concerned or excited about something.

I'm a talker, and to talk about, at, and through things is important to me, unless I white-out or faint because I'm being stabs by needles. Surely most of my friends know that, and most of them would think of it as odd or extremely depressing if I were to mope around in silence.

She's alien to me. That's the worse part about this situation. She has a family, a husband, and two kids. Even then, she tried to kill herself. She's so alien to me, that the only way I can relate is to deviate from her as the subject and relegate her position to that as a point of reference, while I talk about what I'm interested in or my experiences, etc.

I don't really know her that well, and maybe that's the problem. Actually, I don't think it's a problem, because at this point I don't know her and to know her is like getting to know a stranger that I'm sure I won't always get along with (and I don't mean general disagreements). I've tried. It's like talking with distant cousins for the first time in years. "Uh... I don't really know who you are anymore..."

I guess if I were to say there is a lesson, the lesson is that a family, a home, and children might not be enough. Certainly for my sister it's not enough, even though everyone else might say, "Family matters a lot!" Compared to what? Compared to wanting to die? Compared to freedom from pain? Family members are just people that, no bullshit, could or will end up hating you or leaving you. I've seen countless families where fathers abandon their sons and daughters. Daughters and sons hate their miserable mothers. Even if those things don't happen the sons or daughters end up hating or cursing their parents anyhow. Loved too much, or too little. Too high of expectations, too little? Too much value on career, and not enough on character? These things happen regardless of whether or not I see them or write about it.

So why are we here anyway?
You might not want to ask me right now.

2012年3月31日 "It might be a tumor..."

Boiling point?
I have (direct/extended) family members who talk around me. It gets to the point where when their irritation with me is at its boiling point, it already feels like game over. "Game over" in the sense that me saying anything doesn't change shit, because they seem happier demonizing me and ignoring me when they aren't.

Actually, it's more like Mt. Saint Helens blowing up. Mainly because they don't talk to me to directly begin with, a lot of dialog is left in the dark. I'm pretty straightforward and open to conversation. Because of that, I really fucking hate being talked around. I think if I had a headache tumor I would name it the names of my family members.

What it basically comes down to is this, instead of people keeping a up-to-date communication with me, in terms of this or that, other members talk with Member-X about me. Member-X get information about me passes it on, and then the other members gripe at me with bullshit. What pisses off the most, is that how everyone ends up talking around each other to the point where I actually think they lose track of what they're trying to tell me or anyone else.

For example: "You can live here if you pay half the utilities and do some yard work."
What ends up happening:
Member-X comes to me and says, "Member-Y wants you to pay Z" (double what I'm already paying).

Me: "That's not what I agreed to."

Member-X: "Well you're going to need to talk to Member-Y."
At this point I'm thinking it's okay to consult Member-X about things regarding this issue or similar ones, since Member-Y is telling Member-X to tell me important information.
WRONG.
Member-X to me: "Don't do yard work when it's wet or raining."
(Few days later) Member-Y: "WTF!? Why aren't you doing yard work?"
So what do I do?
I'm told NOT to do yard work by Member-X when it's raining or wet, and yet Member-X informs Member-Y that I haven't been doing yard work (without telling Member-Y that they told me not to work on those days). Worse, I can't do yard work when I have work, school, shabbat, and knee problems. That kind of narrows my days doesn't it?

Why is this important?
Because communication is important. Clear and straightforward communication takes away most, if not all, bullshit. Unless we're assessing instances of bad communication, anything other than important, clear, and straightforward communication (in issues similar to that above) is just a waste of time (unless wasting time is the objective).

With that said, I'm actually excited to resolve this tedious bullshit by contacting the head-hancho directly, regarding any problems AND only working with/for that person.

Thoughts?

2011年12月25日 Family holidays

Maybe it's fiction?

A guy in my family has a really good looking wife. She's young, pretty hot, and although she's given birth (how many times, I won't say) I think she's do-able. She's also relatively nice and not rude.

I still can't make
this shit up
But the guy doesn't care, and he doesn't feel she be with him since he's an "asshole" - his own words. She deserves better is what he'd say. In fact, he's making efforts to push her out of his life. Right now they don't even live with each other, and I'm sure it bothers the woman a lot, as she probably feels the man needs to be in the life of their child 24/7 or damn near it. I'm sure it would be easier if they didn't share spawn. But alas that is not an option at this point.

I guess the worst part about it is that he seems like he just wants to go out and have "fun", and she feels like he needs to be responsible to spawn of their loins. Can't force responsibility, but what's worse, to me at least, is that she still loves him, a lot.

There is no way to force her that he won't be with her anymore. He might not be ready, and he might not be ready to have a life with her in a family way. That's fine. This happens with young people, but what needs to be acknowledged, is that him going out and doing things almost forces her to miss out on the things that he does. It's unlikely he's going to spend time with a child while his wife, or ex, or soon to be ex-wife goes out and parties it up with Mr. Gorilla dick, while he's at home wiping off shit from the cunt or ball sack of his daughter or son. This is why men defer the responsibility of raising children to women. Women can only get pregnant for roughly 9 months and have one at a time, but men can go out and mate the whole time during those 9 months. So obviously monogamy wasn't totally intended, but it does help (which is another issue for another time).

I wonder what is the best thing to do in situations like this, as it's clear he may still care but might not be ready emotionally or intellectually to deal with his wife and offspring. How they would have dealt with their problems if they had no children, I do not know. Would it have been easier? And if the child matters that much, why not give up for adoption or foster care?... Lest the child suffer more than it needs to?

No one has the answer in this situation,
and it's obviously too late for an abortion for the man, woman, and child.

I'm personally against abortion unless it threaten's the life of the mother.
I believe using language like "rights" of the mother already are subject to biased opinion already, so I won't even get into that. But I will say, unless it's rape or incest, most people KNEW they were going to have sex. And it's their responsibility to make sure they know they're doing the right thing and accept responsibility for it.

But what the fuck do I know?

2011年11月20日 Time for oneself

After a ritualized luncheon with Fozzjnen, the following dialog happened on our way to his car.
Fozzjnen: "I have next week off, so I'm going to play Skyrim every day. All day."
Me: "What about your kid?"Fozzjnen: "Well, since I'm going to drop him off at day care I can play all day."
Me: "What the hell? Heheh. How does that work? Why pay for day care just to play?"Fozzjnen: "I'm in a contract, so really it doesn't matter if take the kid or not. I still end up having to pay."
Me: "So when is the earliest you can drop the kid off then?"
Fozzjnen: "Haha, 6am."
Me: "So that's like what, 12 hours of gaming and drinking?"
I'm not sure of when the last time Fozzjnen had some real alone at home time, and frankly I didn't want to ask. But I didn't have to, since I knew the answer. The answer I didn't know, was whether or not he could marathon beer like I did when I watched his house several years ago.

At least 3 different, and visible,
types of beer in the fridge
He was gone for about 3 weeks, and like a good friend I stayed at his house feeding his fish and eating his food. There were two things he couldn't understand when he got back. The first was how I was able to double his electricity bill. But that's not as important as the second: over 35 dollars in empty cans and bottles. With each can or bottle worth five cents.

I remember drinking around 150 cans or so of Diet Rite and Coke and I remember drinking around 230 beers or so, but I cannot account for the extra 320 bottles and cans. The only evidence I have of this today is a few pictures showing the corners of empty boxes and 66+ bottle caps of miscellaneous beer. And collecting the bottle caps was only after I realized I ought to keep some as a form of recording how many I've had. According to the numbers I've given, I would've had to drink at least 33 beers per day or so. I have no idea how I did this, as I had no parties or anything of that nature.

This was only after I realized
I should start
So basically Fozzjnen and I were debating on how many beers he could have before he had to pick up his kid from daycare. Would he be able to drive? Probably not. Can he pick his kid up in a cab? Would they actually LET him take his own kid home if he was visibly drunk and using a cab? Why is that a problem? I don't think it is, at least not yet.

Remember that power-drinking requires A LOT of skill. It's not about going out and getting thrashed. It's about sustaining LONG-term buzz. And sustaining a long-term buzz requires a lot of work. Somehow when I did it, I was still able to go to school, sleep, and go to work. I have no idea how this was done. If recall correctly, my Grandma passed away too only a few months before. Huh. Well I doubt that had anything to do with it, although as she was passing, I sat there in front of her with my cousin pounding two 20 ouncers.

"I gotta wake my ass up at six AM every day of
this week and drag myself up to Vascalinas. Yeah,
I'm doing the drywall up there at the new McDonalds."
-Lawrence, Office Space
Somehow I'm pretty well versed with the power-drinking. If I remember correctly with Wainwright,  he even  pussed out when we lived together when my remedy for boredom was power-drinking and Netflix. I don't blame for wimping out, since it is difficult to sustain power-drinking with beers above or at 6.3 ABV. I won't deny, however, that power-drinking isn't for the weak of heart, or rather, weak of liver. I don't blame anyone for being a big pussy, unable to power-drink, but frankly it REALLY is a lot of work and it takes a lot of discipline, kind of like voting for Ron Paul and bragging about it.

So yeah, however you spend alone time, as long as you aren't doing something that you normally do during the mundane week, I suppose it's alright, just like power-drinking. So go out there, and spend some time alone that is different than how you normally spend time when you are alone and around others.

Don't forget bring some money.

2011年9月19日 Un-welcomed visitors at the door?

Some people have often said my behavior when answering doors or dealing with awkward situations at home is excessive. Once when Wainwright and I still lived with each other, sometime around 11:50pm I heard a loud knocking on the apartment door. I was extremely bothered by this, since my friends know to call in advance. I had no idea who would be and since my apartment did not have a peephole I grabbed a gun. I answered the door, and low and behold my (usually)-drunk-and-potato-loving friend was at the door. I told him I was extremely bothered by him not calling, to which Dapl (Drunk-And-Potato-Loving) didn't see a problem, until I said, "Well, at least let me put this away." We chatted briefly and then he went home.
At a later date Dapl reminded me of that situation saying I was "waving a gun around." when he came to visit. To which I replied, "You didn't call. It's my home, and at no point was I 'waving a gun around.'" He could not come up with a good argument, other than he thought my reaction was extreme. Only Wainwright and I knew much about our place. At no point do strangers belong near or in front of our apartment due to its rigid design. Had wainwright continued to stay in the USA and we continued to live there, I would have bought him his own piece, and he knows it.

Another instance happened when I was still in high-school. My mom and I lived in an apartment complex. I was sleeping on the couch and I think it was around 11pm or later, when a low and continuous knocking woke up me. I went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife, hiding it behind my thigh pointing the blade towards the ground. The knocking must have continued for at least a solid minute, without end, even until I approach the door. When I answered to the door, a cop standing with sub-machine gun in low-ready position, although not pointed at me, was only two and a half feet away.
I was so dumbfounded, especially from just waking up, I had no idea what to do. He began to inform me that the police were in the area looking for three suspects and if I knew anything.
"Uh, hold on just a moment, I need to set this down first." I took a step back, leaving the door wide open for him, and in the most non-threatening manner I could provide I sat the knife down on a table near the door. When that cop saw the knife his eyes literally exploded from his skull. He took one careful step back, but still kept his weapon in the low-ready position with the barrel away of my general direction.
Outside of his head actually exploding, I think that's the furthest anyone could bug their eyes out. I began to speak telling him I didn't notice anything until he knocked on the door. "Well, thanks sir, goodnight." And it was over as soon as it started.

Watching E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial with my mom and nephew this weekend reminded me of what people think of questionable behavior in general and it's the reason I brought up those two separate stories. There was a specific scene in the film where Elliot (the main character) rushes into his house to tell his mom, brother and his brother's friends that there is a "goblin outside!" His brother and friends laugh, until they realize Elliot is serious, at which point they immediately proceed to the kitchen to grab knives.
The first thought in my mind was teamwork! Unfortunately, the rest of my family nor society subscribes to my feelings on this issue. You can see the full scene here, albeit in German.

All of my friends are always welcomed, most of them know me well enough not to surprise me. Thankfully, most of my friends agree with my pro-life stance on un-welcomed visitors. For those who don't, take a good look at what could happen. I'm not saying live in fear, because I wasn't afraid to answer the door, as I did answer the door. Yet, I am not going to answer the door without actually being prepared.

How many people actually go out of their way to buy cars without air-bags? It's the same thing, tools are there for your safety, and ideally it's best if we die without ever having to use them (even once).

Most people forget that thieves, killers and rapists subscribe to the following mentality.
Today we were unlucky, but remember we only have to be lucky once. You will have to be lucky always. - A statement released by the IRA (1984)
Staying safe has never felt so good.

2011年8月28日 Ignorant

What I really wanted to say was something more like, "Are you seriously such an ignorant bitch? What kind of fucking moron says that to a 3 year old kid? Let alone their own?" I couldn't believe what she said,
"Fine if you don't want to go home, I'm leaving you here. If you're going to treat me like shit why should I care about you."
She spoke without any hesitation and stormed out of my mom's apartment faster than the German (and Russian) invasion of Poland. I looked over at her son who, while visibly devastated, did not chase after her.

I couldn't believe my sister. Rather, I did not want to believe that she was cold enough to say that she didn't care about her children if they didn't listen to her. I knew the stress of her life was bad, but penalizing a 3 year old kid as if he is a grown man seemed childish and idiotic.

"If you're going to treat me like shit
why should I care about you."
My nephew stared at me briefly and frowned shaking his head when I told him he had to go home. He didn't care about his mom, and it was his way of coping with what she said to him. I have no doubt in my mind she has said similar things on more than one occasion. I wanted to vomit. I wanted not to know them at all.

When they finally left, I realized nothing changed except it got quieter. Even with all the silence in the room, I could still feel the anger and frustration in the air. It bogged down my feelings. I didn't feel much cleaner after a shower, but I was happy that she had left.

2011年6月10日 Man The Fuck Up

I was going to write an article about how much I dislike my mother's tendencies and/or a great portion of her strategic characteristics. Then I read this [link]. I wish I could say it solved my problems but it didn't completely.

There is a reason it's called,
"Man The Fuck Up" and not
"Woman The Fuck Up".
My living situation at present sucks, ever since my roommate moved to Japan, I have been left with cleaning, and taking care of pretty much everything else he more or less left-behind. That's quite stressful, but really the stressful part is dealing with my mom who wants to help me with this.

Since I am going to stay with her during my "transitional period" over the summer, I am moving some things into her apartment. The frustration is compounded by the fact that I need surgery on my knee and this will immobilize me, almost leaving me no choice but to stay with her since it is the most convenient physically.

Intellectually living here is total hell. She has no reasoning that makes any sense whatsoever, and in most cases she has no reasoning whatsoever. I have made it a policy that when I drive her to pick up groceries or shopping that she is not allowed to do "browsing" for things, because I hate shopping for more than 30 minutes and since it's my car, gas, and time she'll ideally respect that.

Unfortunately, the same policies for shopping do no work with moving.
"We're only going to take those bags over there, by the door, and that. I don't want to take anything else."
Ignoring what I said she walks into the other room to look at a shelf I said earlier I would move with a friend this up-coming Sunday.
"Let's put this shelf in the car."
I'm at the point of yelling at her.
"I just said I would deal with that later"
Ideal woman for most men,
attractive, stupid, and devoted to
their husband.
This shit goes on and on. First it's my art collection that she wants to take to her place, albeit large in size, it consists of only 3 pieces so far. Then it's a piece of furniture. I have to explain to her that the art needs to be carefully taken to her apartment, and I cannot put anything near it that would damage the canvas or break the glass. Some of these things have custom framing and glass, which is not cheap.
